Activities and Quotes for a Library's Facebook Page

Don't miss out on all the fun and free publicity your library can have with Facebook. It's easy to get started and before you know it, all your patrons will be interacting and commenting.

I'll show some examples of great ways libraries are using it to keep their regular users engaged and entertained and to attract new ones.

Don't miss out on this great way to reach more of an audience in your community.

10 Status Updates to Spark Interaction - for Library Lovers

Post one of these every so often to get your fans participating.

Asking them a question now and then can get some lively discussions going.

  1. Who is your favorite author?
  2. What are you reading right now? What book is on your bedside table?
  3. What do you love about libraries and librarians?
  4. Tell about a favorite book from your childhood.
  5. Share your best tip for encouraging a child to read.
  6. Where is your favorite spot to read?
  7. Which do you prefer: ebook, paperback or hardback book?
  8. How many books do you read in a month? In a year?
  9. Share your tips for encouraging a child to read.
  10. Do you read in bed?

What Can You Put on the Library's Page? - Everything!!

  • Closing announcements (holidays, etc.)
  • New service announcements
  • Upcoming programs and events
  • Photos of book displays, of areas in the library, of successful events
  • Feature staff (maybe showcase a staff member of the week or of the month)
  • Links to book related topics
  • Feature photos of volunteers doing things to benefit the library. It's a good way to recruit more help.

This is a clever use of social media. By suggesting book titles here, you are reaching an audience that might not bother to ask at the reference desk inside the library.
