They Need a Hammock Swing

Besides a book, the thing a reader needs the most is a comfortable place to curl up with that book. Sure I've read in some pretty awkward places, but that's because I'm a compulsive reader. I can read in noisy, jostling subways or sitting on concrete steps waiting for the library to open.

My preference, though, is something cushy and quiet. This hanging rope chair takes part of the cushy requirement and now I have to find the quiet spot to place it. I have the perfect spot in mind.

We completed this fall a revamp of the landscape at our summer cottage. Now there's a path that winds through the edge of the woods and comes to a halt at a big tree. Something needs to go there to give a reason for the path.

We'd considered a birdbath or even one of those chainsaw sculptures where someone artistic turns a hunk of wood into a bear carving. Now that I see this beautiful swing seat, I know that's exactly what is needed there.

During those lazy summer days at camp, I'll pick up my Kindle and stroll through the wooded path to my reading seat. The shade of the big oak tree will keep me cool and I can gently sway back and forth creating a slight breeze while I read.

I have it pictured in my mind already and can hardly wait for next summer to enjoy my reading swing. If I had room, I could hang it inside, but I already have my winter reading needs filled. I'll save this for summer.

This swing seat would look at home on a porch, a deck, inside the house or on a tree in the yard. Don't you love the summery, beachy feel of it!

The Path to My Swing Seat

As I stroll down this path, I have book in hand and look forward to relaxing in the swing seat under the shade of a big oak tree.
